Blackberry Margarita
A deep purple frozen margarita with blackberries, tequila and lime. Tart, jammy and striking in the glass.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Rocks or margarita glass
Blackberries turn a frozen margarita an inky violet that looks stunning in a clear glass. Their tartness works beautifully with tequila's earthy side.
Seeds are the only drawback; a quick strain of the purée solves that.
Blackberry Margarita
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz blanco tequila
- 1 oz orange liqueur
- 1½ oz fresh lime juice
- 1½ oz simple syrup
- 1½ cups frozen blackberries
- 1½ cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Purée the blackberries with the lime juice and syrup, then press it through a sieve if you dislike seeds.
- Return the purée to the jar with the tequila, liqueur and ice.
- Blend on high for 30–40 seconds.
- Pour and garnish with whole berries and a sage leaf or mint sprig.
Garnish: Fresh blackberries and sage or mint
Glass: Rocks or margarita glass
Tips for the best texture
- Blackberries stain; rinse the blender jar promptly.
- A pinch of salt in the blend tames any bitterness from the seeds.
Try a twist
Mix half blackberries and half raspberries for a bramble-style margarita.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
