Frozen Strawberry Margarita
Frozen strawberries, tequila and lime blended into a thick, ruby-red margarita. No mix required, works in any blender.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Margarita glass
Frozen strawberries do double duty here: they bring the berry flavor and they stand in for much of the ice, keeping every sip thick and undiluted. The result is brighter and less candy-sweet than a strawberry margarita made from syrup.
Bags of frozen sliced strawberries are ideal because they break down quickly. If you only have fresh berries, hull them and freeze them on a tray for an hour before blending.
Frozen Strawberry Margarita
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz blanco tequila
- 1 oz triple sec
- 1½ oz fresh lime juice
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 1½ cups frozen strawberries
- 1½ cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup to the blender.
- Drop in the frozen strawberries, then the ice.
- Blend on low for 10 seconds to break up the fruit, then switch to high for about 40 seconds.
- Scrape down the sides if a strawberry wedges near the top and blend a few seconds more.
- Pour into sugar-rimmed glasses and garnish with a fresh berry.
Garnish: Fresh strawberry and a sugar rim
Glass: Margarita glass
Tips for the best texture
- Strawberries vary in sweetness; taste before pouring and add syrup ½ oz at a time.
- For a seedless, silky drink, blend the berries with the lime juice first and strain, then blend the purée with ice.
Try a twist
Swap half the strawberries for frozen mango for a strawberry-mango sunset effect: blend each separately and layer them in the glass.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
