Frozen Caipirinha
Brazil's national cocktail, frozen: cachaça, lime and sugar blended into a tart slush.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Rocks glass
The caipirinha is Brazil's answer to the daiquiri, made with cachaça, a grassy spirit distilled from fresh sugarcane juice. Muddled limes give it a bright, slightly bitter edge.
Blending whole lime wedges brings in the peel's oils, so don't skip that step.
Frozen Caipirinha
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 4 oz cachaça
- 2 limes, cut into wedges
- 1½ oz simple syrup
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- 3 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Muddle the lime wedges with the syrup in a cup, then strain into the blender.
- Add the cachaça, extra lime juice and ice.
- Blend on high for 30 seconds.
- Serve with a lime wheel.
Garnish: Lime wheel
Glass: Rocks glass
Tips for the best texture
- Don't blend whole wedges directly; the pith turns bitter.
- White rum works if you can't find cachaça.
Try a twist
Add frozen passion fruit or strawberries for a fruit caipirinha.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
