Grapefruit Orange Margarita
A tangy, sunrise-colored frozen margarita built on fresh grapefruit, orange juice and tequila.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Rocks glass
Grapefruit brings a pleasant bitterness, orange smooths it out, and tequila ties them together. The result is a frozen margarita that tastes like breakfast citrus with a wink.
It's less sweet than most margaritas, which makes it a nice palate-cleanser between fruitier rounds.
Grapefruit Orange Margarita
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz blanco tequila
- 1 oz orange liqueur
- 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
- 2 oz fresh orange juice
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz agave syrup
- 3 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Juice the citrus and pour it into the blender with the tequila, liqueur and agave.
- Add the ice.
- Blend on high for 30–40 seconds, until the slush is even and pale orange.
- Serve in salt-rimmed glasses with a grapefruit slice.
Garnish: Grapefruit half-wheel and a salt rim
Glass: Rocks glass
Tips for the best texture
- Ruby grapefruit gives a rosier color than white.
- A few drops of orange bitters make the citrus taste more layered.
Try a twist
Finish the glasses with a little sparkling water for a lighter, spritz-style margarita.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
