Blue Colada
A sky-blue twist on the piña colada with rum, coconut, pineapple and a splash of blue curaçao.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Hurricane glass
Take a creamy colada, add a pour of blue curaçao, and the whole drink turns the color of a summer sky. The orange note from the curaçao lifts the coconut and keeps it from feeling too rich.
Kids love the color too; the curaçao syrup version is in the twist below.
Blue Colada
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz light rum
- 1 oz blue curaçao
- 2½ oz cream of coconut
- 3 oz pineapple juice
- 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
- 2 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Measure rum, curaçao, cream of coconut and pineapple juice into the jar.
- Add the pineapple and ice.
- Blend on high around 45 seconds, until thick and pale blue.
- Pour into tall glasses and add a cherry.
Garnish: Cherry and pineapple wedge
Glass: Hurricane glass
Tips for the best texture
- More curaçao = deeper blue but also sweeter; balance with lime.
- Coconut rum can replace half the light rum.
Try a twist
Use non-alcoholic blue curaçao syrup and skip the rum for a kid-friendly blue slush.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
