Frozen Blue Margarita
Tequila and fresh lime meet blue curaçao in a vivid ocean-blue frozen margarita. Perfect for pool parties.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Margarita glass
The blue margarita is pure fun, and that's the point. Blue curaçao is simply an orange liqueur dyed blue, so it plays the same role triple sec does in a classic margarita, just with a lot more personality.
Because curaçao is sweeter than triple sec, this recipe uses a little less syrup to keep it balanced.
Frozen Blue Margarita
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz blanco tequila
- 1½ oz blue curaçao
- 2 oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz simple syrup
- 3 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Rim two glasses with lime and sugar or salt.
- Add tequila, blue curaçao, lime juice and syrup to the blender.
- Add the ice and blend on high for 30–40 seconds until smooth.
- Pour into the glasses and garnish with a lime wheel.
Garnish: Lime wheel and a sugar rim
Glass: Margarita glass
Tips for the best texture
- For a turquoise color, add 1 oz of pineapple juice.
- Non-alcoholic blue curaçao syrup works for mocktails and gives the same color.
- Fresh lime gives a greener-blue tint; bottled lime keeps it a cleaner blue.
Try a twist
Layer a spoonful of grenadine in the bottom of the glass before pouring for a red-white-and-blue effect.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
