Passion Fruit Margarita
A tropical, tangy frozen margarita made with passion fruit purée, tequila and lime.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Margarita glass
Passion fruit has one of the most intense flavors in the fruit world: perfumed, tart and unmistakably tropical. A little goes a long way in a frozen margarita.
Look for frozen purée (often labeled maracuyá) in the freezer aisle of Latin markets.
Passion Fruit Margarita
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 3 oz blanco tequila
- 1 oz orange liqueur
- 2 oz passion fruit purée
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 1½ oz simple syrup
- 3 cups ice cubes
Instructions
- Thaw the passion fruit purée just enough to measure it.
- Add all the liquids to the blender, then the ice.
- Blend on high for 30–40 seconds.
- Pour and float a few passion fruit seeds on top for show.
Garnish: Half a fresh passion fruit or a lime wheel
Glass: Margarita glass
Tips for the best texture
- Purée is very tart; adjust syrup to taste after blending.
- Passion fruit juice drinks work too, but cut the syrup in half.
Try a twist
Add ½ cup frozen mango for a mango-passion margarita.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
