Frozen Grasshopper
A retro mint-chocolate frozen drink with crème de menthe, crème de cacao and vanilla ice cream.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Coupe or small sundae glass
The grasshopper is a supper-club classic that tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream, because that's basically what it is. Bright green and creamy, it makes a great after-dinner treat.
It's a lower-alcohol drink since it uses only liqueurs, which makes it a nice way to end a long evening.
Frozen Grasshopper
Ingredients (2 drinks)
- 2 oz green crème de menthe
- 2 oz white crème de cacao
- 2 cups vanilla or mint chip ice cream
- 1 oz whole milk
- ½ cup ice cubes
Instructions
- Add the crème de menthe, crème de cacao and milk to the blender.
- Add the ice cream and ice.
- Blend on medium for 20 seconds until smooth.
- Pour into coupes and garnish with shaved chocolate or a crushed chocolate-mint cookie.
Garnish: Shaved chocolate and a mint leaf
Glass: Coupe or small sundae glass
Tips for the best texture
- Mint chip ice cream adds little chocolate flecks for free.
- Crush a few chocolate sandwich cookies on top for a 'grasshopper pie' finish.
Try a twist
Add 1 oz vodka or brandy for a stronger 'flying grasshopper.'
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
