Frozen Hurricane
A New Orleans-style frozen hurricane with light and dark rum, passion fruit, orange and lime.
- 5 min prep
- 2 drinks
- Hurricane glass
The Hurricane is the French Quarter's signature party drink: fruity, red-orange and stronger than it seems. Passion fruit is the backbone, not just generic punch.
Frozen, it's perfect for a Mardi Gras or crawfish-boil gathering.

Garnish: Orange wheel and cherry
Glass: Hurricane glass
Tips for the best texture
- If using purée instead of juice, add an extra ½ oz syrup.
- This is a strong one; pace yourself.
Try a twist
Hold back the dark rum and float it on top for a two-tone look.
Blender, frozen drink maker or slush machine?
These amounts are written for a standard countertop blender. In an ice-shaving frozen drink maker, put the ice in the hopper and the liquids and any fruit in the jar, then run a full cycle. In a home slush machine, which freezes the drink itself, leave out the ice, replace it with about 1 cup of cold water or juice, and pour the mixed liquid into the bowl.
